Bernard Wins Two Medals at Czech Beer Competition
Bernard Family Brewery came away a winner from the 20th Annual Czech Beer (České pivo) competition. Bernard’s Dark Lager won second place in the dark beer category and Bernard’s Bohemian Lager 4.5% won third in the light lager category.
The jury of the most prestigious Czech beer tasting competition assessed 73 entries in six categories. The results of the competition were announced in the gardens of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic on the occasion of Czech Beer Days on September 29.
“Receiving an award in this prestigious competition is both a success and commitment. Many properties of beer are measurable, but of course, the way a beer tastes is highly individual. That is why it pleases me that both our customers and experts like the taste of our beer,” said Josef Vávra, Master Brewer and CEO of Bernard Family Brewery, when asked to comment on the results.
The jury, comprising brewers, teachers and experts from the Hop Research Institute and Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority, assess chiefly the sensory properties of the beer, specifically appearance, taste, flavour, aroma and texture. The traditional competition usually takes place in two rounds. This year, however, with regard to pandemic, the competition was organised as a single round.
“The beers that are awarded in this prestigious competition are for consumers a guarantee of the highest quality and an exquisite taste experience,” says Martina Ferencová, CEO of the Czech Association of Breweries and Malthouses.
